Learn to speak Maori quickly in a safe, accepting environment
Te Ataarangi is a method for adults to learn to speak Maori quickly and efficiently. A nationwide network means there is probably a group operating near you.
The system, which uses coloured rods and a large component of spoken language, was developed in the 1970s. Since then Te Ataarangi has become recognised as one of the most efficient methods for learning te reo Maori.

Inaugural Indigenous Language Revitalisation and Teaching Conference 30 October - 2 November 2008
This is an invitation from Te Ataarangi to the ends of the world and throughout Aotearoa inviting those in the field of indigenous language revitalisation and teaching to join us in Aotearoa – New Zealand. Let's gather to listen, observe, exchange ideas and learn with others in these fields. Aotearoa has paved the way in developing Indigenous Methods of language learning of which Te Ataarangi is but one of them alongside, Te Kohanga Reo (language nests), Kura Kaupapa Māori (immersion primary education), Wharekura (immersion secondary education) and Wananga (tribal colleges). Te Ataarangi is a 'flax roots' methodology created from within the communities and has operating for over 25 years. This gathering will afford the opportunity to engage with and learn first hand about this initiative and its methodology and contribution to the revitalisation of Te Reo Māori. Join us and share ideas, food, stories and celebrate together the spirit of our languages that survive today.
Registration for this event is now available online for International and Aotearoa/New Zealand Delegates.
