Te Ataarangi extends our heartfelt congratulations to two of our treasured Manutea, Dr Te Ripowai Higgins and Rahera Shortland, who have both been recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours.
For decades, these remarkable wāhine have dedicated their lives to the revitalisation of te reo Māori, the advancement of Māori education, and the nurturing of countless tauira, kaiako, whānau, and communities. Their contributions to Te Ataarangi have helped shape and strengthen our kaupapa, not only here in Aotearoa but internationally, supporting Indigenous language revitalisation efforts across the world.
As foundation leaders, mentors, advocates, and champions of te reo Māori, their legacy continues to inspire future generations. We are deeply grateful for the wisdom, aroha, and unwavering commitment they have shared over many decades.
Kei ngā tuawahine, kei ngā iho pūmanawa, kei ngā Pou o Te Ataarangi tēnei te whakamānawa i a kōrua me ā kōrua mahi rangatira. He taonga kōrua ki Te Ataarangi, ki te motu whānui, otirā ki tō tātou reo rangatira. Whakanuia ka tika! 🤗
